چکیده

The asymptotic probability density function of nonlinear phase noise, often called the Gordon-Mollenauer effect, is derived analytically when the number of fiber spans is very large. The nonlinear phase noise is the summation of infinitely many independently distributed noncentral chi-square random variables with two degrees of freedom. The mean and standard deviation of those random variables are both proportional to the square of the reciprocal of all odd natural numbers. The nonlinear phase noise can also be accurately modeled as the summation of a noncentral chi-square random variable with two degrees of freedom and a Gaussian random variable. c © 2008 Optical Society of America

Transient Nonlinear Vibration of Randomly Excited Cylindrical Shallow Panels in Non Aging Viscous Medium

In this paper, the nonlinear transient vibration of a cylindrical shallow panel under lateral white noise excitation is studied. The panel is in contact with a non aging viscoelastic medium. Since the external load is a time varying random wide band process, deterministic and conventional approaches cannot be used. Instead, the evolution of the probability density function of the response is in...

On the Probability Density Function of the Test Statistic for One Nonlinear GLR Detector Arising from fMRI

Recently an important and interesting nonlinear generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) detector emerged in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data processing. However, the study of that detector is incomplete: the probability density function (pdf) of the test statistic was draw from numerical simulations without much theoretical support and is therefore, not firmly grounded. This corresp...

Asymptotic analysis of noise sensitivity in a neuronal burster.

A combination of asymptotic approaches provides a new analysis of the effect of small noise on the bursting cycle of a neuronal burster of elliptic type (type III). The analysis is applied to a stochastic model of an excitable spine, with an activity-dependent stem conductance, that exhibits conditional burst dynamics. First, we give an asymptotic approximation to the probability density for th...

Design of nonlinear parity approach to fault detection and identification based on Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and unknown input observer in nonlinear systems

In this study, a novel fault detection scheme is developed for a class of nonlinear system in the presence of sensor noise. A nonlinear Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is implemented to create multiple models. While the T-S fuzzy model is used for only the nonlinear distribution matrix of the fault and measurement signals, a larger category of nonlinear systems is considered. Next, a mapping to decou...

Phase transitions driven by Lévy stable noise: exact solutions and stability analysis of nonlinear fractional Fokker-Planck equations

Phase transitions and effects of external noise on many body systems are one of the main topics in physics. In mean field coupled nonlinear dynamical stochastic systems driven by Brownian noise, various types of phase transitions including nonequilibrium ones may appear. A Brownian motion is a special case of Lévy motion and the stochastic process based on the latter is an alternative choice fo...
